Living Essentials Announces the 5-hour ENERGY® Helps Amazing People Program

Monday, November 25, 2013
If you like us on Facebook or follow the 5-hour ENERGY® Helps YouTube channel, you may already know about the 5-hour ENERGY® Helps Amazing People program. But starting today, we're proud to announce that our program is being launched nationally! Created by 5-hour ENERGY®'s founder Manoj
Bhargava, the Amazing People program recognizes outstanding Americans who, despite their own challenges, give their time and energy to make the lives of others better. Those who are selected receive $50,000 and are showcased in a weekly online video series promoted on YouTube and Facebook to give their organizations and efforts exposure.

The 5-hour ENERGY® Helps Amazing People program all began with a question from Bhargava: "Why only pay celebrities or athletes? Why not give to the real heroes?" He continues, "5-hour ENERGY® has always been about helping hard working people, and the Amazing People program takes this further by making a significant difference in the lives of those who are working through difficult circumstances."

5-hour ENERGY® Helps Amazing People has featured more than 20 people from across the country, each of them working for a cause close to their heart. Our program has donated over $1 million to recipients including a victim of gang violence who provides a safe haven for teenagers in the most dangerous section of New Orleans; a mother with disabled sons who volunteers tirelessly for Easter Seals; a widow who has dedicated her life to taking in orphans in need; a former Bollywood actress who spent her life savings to help victims of domestic violence in Miami; a wildfire victim from Colorado Springs who lost her home yet continues to rescue puppies from mills; an Iraq War veteran with PTSD who assists those returning from service with getting back on their feet; among many others.

We love sharing these inspiring stories, which is why we are backing the program with a full-scale advertising campaign that starts today and continues through the end of the year! Be sure to stay tuned for more amazing stories of amazing people. For more information about the 5-hour ENERGY® Helps Amazing People program, visit http://www.5hourhelps.com.

Ditch The Couch Potato Excuses & Become A Marathoner

Wednesday, November 20, 2013
The time of year has come again where New Year's Resolutions are being made. Last year we wrote a Blog post about New Year's resolutions that aren't losing weight, and this year we're continuing our focus on getting healthy, without focusing too much on the bathroom scale! There's more to getting healthy than dropping weight! Sticking to an exercise plan isn't always easy especially at this time of year when days are shorter and colder. But with 2014 just around the corner, the New Year is as good a time as any to drop the couch potato excuses, get motivated and get in the mindset of a marathoner!

Couch Potato's Excuse: “It's too cold!”
Marathoner's Response: Sure, it's cold out which makes it even harder to find the motivation to leave the comfort of home to go for a run or to the gym, but there are two solutions; bundle up before working out outdoors or create a workout routine you can do at home. Walking and jogging outdoors is an excellent exercise that doesn't require a gym membership! If you choose to head outdoors to exercise, dress in layers so you can remove them as you start to sweat and put them on as you cool down.

Another option is to find a workout routine you can do indoors. It is important to map out your workout plan so you stick to it without any short cuts. Here is a list of 25 at home exercises where the only equipment you need is yourself.

Couch Potato's Excuse: “I don't have time!”
Marathoner's Response: Whether you have school, a job or kids, remember that everybody is busy, but time management and not accepting excuses is the key to success. Whether you need to start your day earlier or break your workouts in to mini-workouts, it is up to you to make time in your day for exercise. If you struggle with finding time to exercise, specifically set time aside and write it down in your planner or try keeping a workout journal. We all have 24 hours in a day, it’s up to you to make the time to take care of yourself.

Couch Potato's Excuse: “I'm too tired!”
Marathoner's Response: The irony of this excuse is that without exercise, you have no energy! You may think you're too tired to exercise, but once you push past that feeling you'll realize how good you feel after working out. If you find yourself wanting to go home and relax after work, then try working out in the mornings instead. A half hour of jogging, walking, biking or yoga in the morning will help wake your body up and give you more energy during the day.

Couch Potato's Excuse: “I don't want to exercise by myself!”
Marathoner's Response: You don't have to exercise by yourself, grab a friend! Odds are that one of your friends, family members or co-workers is in the same boat as you and would enjoy a workout companion. There are numerous benefits of working out with a friend, including fewer skipped workouts, you can push each other to work harder, you can try new exercises together and your workouts will go faster. If you have a workout buddy that's great, but if he or she can't make it to a workout that doesn't mean you should skip it, too!

In the wise words of Samuel Johnson, “Clear your mind of can't.” Let the New Year be a fresh start for your fitness goals! When you change your mind set to that of a marathoner, you are able to ditch the excuses holding you back from accomplishing your goals!

The Season Wraps Up At Homestead-Miami Speedway

Wednesday, November 13, 2013
Take a deep breath racing fans, it's that time of year again, another exciting year of racing is coming to a close. This weekend the 5-hour ENERGY® team is heading south to the Sunshine State for the final race of the Chase. But before Sunday's race at Homestead-Miami Speedway, we wanted to fill you in on some of this track's interesting history.

From its beginning, Homestead-Miami Speedway has been unlike any other track on the NASCAR circuit. In August 1992, Hurricane Andrew, a Category 5 hurricane, hit Florida and caused massive destruction. Shortly after the hurricane, longtime Miami Motorsports promoter Ralph Sanchez negotiated a development deal to help rebuild and revitalize the city. Sanchez began the development ,of what would soon become the Homestead-Miami Speedway in August of 1993,one year after Hurricane Andrew hit Florida. The 434 acre racing facility was completed two years later, and a sold-out grand opening ceremony was held on November 3, 1995.

Homestead-Miami Speedway is known for being the host track for the last race of the season for all of NASCAR's different racing series. This quickly became a tradition since the track's first race in November 1995, which was the last race for the Busch Series (now the Nationwide Series) season. Starting in 2002, the Winston Cup (now the Sprint Cup) and Craftsman Truck series (now the Camping World Truck Series) also started holding their season ending races at the speedway. This tradition is now known as Ford Championship Weekend.

Throughout the years, the speedway has undergone some major renovations. Initially, Homestead-Miami Speedway was designed to model after the Indianapolis Motor Speedway (IMS), but the rectangular-oval shaped track didn't produce the same quality of racing. This was because the track was shorter in distance than IMS, so the characteristics that Indy is known for didn't transfer over to Homestead. Instead, the track’s flat, sharp turns lowered racing speeds and created more crashes. The danger of the track led to reconfigurations in 1996, which included widening turn aprons by up to 24 feet. Changes continued in 1997 as the track was completely reconfigured from its rectangle shape to a traditional oval shape. It wasn't until 2003 that Homestead became the track that we know it as today.

In addition to improving the track, the speedway has continued to update its facility over the years. From installing lights to allow night racing to the addition of a state-of-the-art scoring tower, Homestead-Miami Speedway has constantly worked to keep the facility up to date. It's no wonder the track made motorsports history in 2009 when it became the first venue ever to host all of North America's premier motorsports championships! We're sad to see the 2013 racing season come to an end, but we can't wait to watch the excitement of the Ford EcoBoost 400! Best of luck to Clint Bowyer and the 5-hour ENERGY® team at Sunday's race at Homestead!

5-hour ENERGY® Continues To Support Breast Cancer Awareness

Friday, November 8, 2013
October may be over, but our efforts to support breast cancer awareness are still in full swing. By now you've probably seen our ads for the new raspberry flavor of 5-hour ENERGY®, and you know that we will donate five cents from the sale of every bottle (through 12/31/13) to Living Beyond Breast Cancer (LBBC), a national nonprofit education and support organization serving women and families affected by breast cancer.

In addition to the donation, we've had a whole lot of fun promoting the cause by sponsoring Dover International Speedway's NASCAR Nationwide Series race, which was billed as the "5-hour ENERGY® 200 benefiting Living Beyond Breast Cancer." At Dover, thousands of NASCAR fans visited the LBBC booth to learn more about the programs and services they provide for diagnosed women and their families.

We also placed the LBBC logo on the hood of Clint Bowyer's No. 15 Toyota Camry at three races on the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series schedule.

Clint was a great sport and even participated in a “Yoga on the Track” event to help raise additional awareness for LBBC.

We also encouraged fans to join our Breast Cancer Awareness Month efforts with a few different contests. The #5hourGoesPink Photo Contest was a month long photo contest held on Facebook. The contest invited fans to show us their pink pride by submitting a photo of them wearing anything pink with the option of including a raspberry flavored 5-hour ENERGY® shot in the picture. We received some awesome submissions and were proud to see our fans going pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month! 15 lucky winners received a month's supply of their favorite 5-hour ENERGY® shot and a Living Beyond Breast Cancer grab bag fill of goodies.

In addition to the month long contest, we got some of the 5-hour ENERGY® athletes involved to help us spread the word. During October, we held week long sweepstakes where participants had the chance to win raspberry flavored 5-hour ENERGY® shots and pink gear from Clint Bowyer, Jim Furyk and the 5-hour ENERGY® p/b Kenda Racing Team.

So far these efforts have made a significant difference for LBBC.

• Since the program began, there have been more than 43,000 total visits to LBBC's website, and 73% were new users.
• LBBC's Breast Cancer Helpline received a 400% increase in calls from the same time in 2012.
• 5hourenergy.com was in the top five referring sites for the month of October, redirecting over 6,000 people to LBBC.org.

We'll be back with an update before the end of the year, but you can do your part by picking up a raspberry flavor 5-hour ENERGY® shot today. Help us write a bigger check!
