Whew - it was tough, but we did it. The 5-hour ENERGY® team sifted through all the entries for the "Where's Your 5-hour ENERGY Shot?" contest and chose five deserving winners. We know what you're thinking: "Five? I thought you were going to choose three finalists?" Well, there were so many worthy submissions that we had a tough time picking just three. By now you're probably dying to know who won the Grand Prize of 365 shots of 5-hour ENERGY, so without further ado, we give you our winner:


Heather Gettings Gowrie, atop the Mt Tutoko glacier in Fiordland, New Zealand.

Heather told us, "I'm so glad I packed it for my trip to New Zealand, knowing I couldn't buy it there. Every day was packed full of activities. Having my 5-hour ENERGY each morning perked me right up, ready for the next adventure including landing on glaciers and bungee jumping for the first time!"

Though Heather's life isn't all bungee jumping and helicopter rides, she says she has a 5-hour ENERGY shot in her holster for her daily activities as well.

The fifth place winner of the "Where's Your 5-hour ENERGY Shot?" contest has a job that requires an extraordinary amount of energy. Emily Kines runs a household full of boys - including a little one who is only 4 months old.

  • Friend Send Contest: You can recruit your own Twitter followers to help them win free tickets by asking them to retweet the post "Help send @[your handle] to @NASCAR_NNS #5HourEnergy200 @MonsterMile" If you receive the most mentions by your Twitter followers, throughout the week, you'll receive a free pair of tickets. The Friend Send Contest will occur once per week, ending May 6.


  • 5-hour ENERGY® 200 Sweepstakes: All you have to do for this contest is "Like" the 5-hour ENERGY Facebook Page and follow the prompts to enter the Sweepstakes. Winners will be chosen at random to receive the free 5-hour ENERGY® 200 tickets. However, since this one runs for the entire three weeks, you won't know if you've won the tickets until all three contests come to a close.

All three Facebook and Twitter contests will run until Friday, May 6.That's only three weeks, so you better get moving 5-hour fans! Follow Signs to the 5-hour ENERGY 200, Then Turn Left

At 5-hour ENERGY® Headquarters, we're overachievers. It's not enough to sponsor a single NASCAR team - we've got to sponsor the whole race! The 5-hour ENERGY team is stoked to announce our title sponsorship of the NASCAR Nationwide Series Race at the Dover International Speedway.

On Saturday, May 14, competitors in the NASCAR Nationwide Series will race in the 5-hour ENERGY 200 on the "Monster Mile" in Dover, Delaware. But the drivers won't be the only high-energy individuals at the Speedway that day. Brand representatives will be passing out samples of 5-hour ENERGY samples to ensure our fans are full of get-up-and go while at Dover International Speedway.

Athletic Event Season is Here: Get Ready for Race Day!

The spring and summer seasons are prime time for athletic racing events. If you've been training for weeks or months for an upcoming marathon, triathlon or even a 5k race, don't let race day sneak up on you. Prepare and take the appropriate precautions to ensure you reach your pace or distance goals.

The Week Of: During your home stretch of training, don't overdo it. This close to the race, extra conditioning or training won't improve your pace or distance. Take this time to taper - reduce your weekly mileage so your muscles are fully rested and recovered by race day. Do cut back your mileage, but don't forget to:
  • Continue stretching, even on rest days.

  • Stay hydrated by pushing fluids and avoiding alcohol.

  • Prepare your feet by treating calluses or blisters and trimming toenails.

  • Get adequate sleep. You'll likely be restless the night before the race. Your body will be better able to handle one sleepless night if you're not already operating with a sleep debt.

  • Start increasing your carbohydrate intake about 3 days before the race.

  • The night before, avoid eating high fat, high fiber or highly processed foods. Carbo-loading on pasta 12 hours before the race is a popular choice for many athletes.

  • Make sure you're healthy. Don't put yourself in danger just to complete a race.

The Day Of: Today is the day! You've done all the preparations and today you will see the results of your hard work. Ensure you do your best by:
  • Clear your mind and prepare mentally: If you've done the proper training, the biggest hurdle you're likely to encounter on race day is the mental battle. Prepare your mind and body for the race you're about to start by envisioning the course, the finish line and all the miles in between.

  • Fueling Up: Today is not the day to skip breakfast. Whether you choose liquid nourishment or opt for carbo-rich solids is up to you. But, you'll want some sort of fuel in your tank. You might also want to consider high-carb energy supplements or gels during the race.

  • Checking your equipment: Make sure your shoes, athletic clothing and racing equipment are in tip top shape. Pack your bag ahead of time to make sure you have everything you need before the race starts.

  • Warming up and stretching: This routine is up to you - just don't abandon your normal pre-run preparations.

Post Race: Congrats, you've done it! Keep the momentum going:
  • Cool down to prevent cramps and nausea and resist the urge to stretch immediately.

  • Continue drinking water and fluids with electrolytes such as orange juice.

  • Eat some protein and carbohydrates as soon as possible to refuel your depleted energy stores.

  • Reward yourself! You've just met your goal. Find your friends, family and other supporters and celebrate!
